A deck is a great way to get some fresh air and enjoy the beauty of the great outdoors. However, depending on the layout of your property, it's sometimes hard to get privacy while you're outside. However, you should not let a lack of privacy keep you from enjoying your outdoor space. Learn what updates you can do to improve the privacy on your deck and make the space more comfortable.

Install an Awning

Add a covering over your deck with a sunsetter awning. If you live in an area where you're concerned about your neighbors being able to look down onto your deck, the awning will serve as the ultimate privacy booster. However, not only will the awning keep any nosy neighbors out, but an awning can also provide you with excellent protection from your sun -- which will make your time spent outdoors more enjoyable.

Create a Green Wall

A green wall is a great way to somewhat enclose your deck from the rest of the world. To build a green wall, find a lightweight material, such as a wood lattice panel. Secure the panels to the deck and then plant ivies or another vine plant at the base of the deck. As the plants grow, they will cover the lattice and create a green wall. If you don't want to wait around for privacy, you can always purchase fake plants and install them on the lattice.

Rotate your Furniture

A practical way to increase privacy is to adjust the direction of your furniture. For example, if you live in an area where the decks are right next to each other, and your neighbor's furniture faces your direction, rotate your furniture so that your back is to them. While you might still hear your neighbors when you're outside, you won't have to worry about staring at them directly in their face.

Hang Fabric

An alternative to the green wall is to hang fabric. If you are renting the property and you're not allowed to attach any large structures, such as panels, to the deck, you can easily hang the fabric. If there is a deck just above yours, install thin curtain rods at the base of the upper deck. You can then attach the material to rods. When you want more privacy simply pull the fabric just like you would close curtains.

Your home is yours to enjoy to the fullest. Enjoy every inch of your home with these privacy-adding updates.
